NEUROPSYCHOLOGICAL TESTING & EVALUATION
Fieldston Counseling provides comprehensive neuropsychological evaluations for children, adolescents, and adults. Our evaluations are conducted by licensed psychologists with specialized training in psychological and neuropsychological assessment and are designed to provide a thorough understanding of an individual’s cognitive, academic, emotional, behavioral, and executive functioning. Whether concerns have recently emerged or have been present for years, our evaluations help identify underlying factors that may be impacting daily functioning and provide a clear roadmap for treatment and support.
Neuropsychological testing is a comprehensive assessment that examines how the brain functions across multiple domains. Using evidence-based, standardized assessment instruments, our psychologists evaluate areas including intellectual and cognitive functioning, attention and concentration, executive functioning, memory, learning, language, visual-spatial abilities, processing speed, academic achievement, emotional functioning, personality, adaptive functioning, and behavioral concerns. Each evaluation is tailored to the individual’s unique needs and referral questions, allowing us to develop a comprehensive understanding of both strengths and areas requiring support.
A neuropsychological evaluation can help clarify diagnoses and identify conditions such as:
- Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD)
- Learning Disorders (Reading, Writing, and Mathematics)
- Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD)
- Executive Functioning Deficits
- Intellectual Disabilities
- Giftedness and Twice-Exceptional (2e) Learners
- Development Delays
- Language and Processing Disorders
- Anxiety Disorders
- Depression and Mood Disorders
- Trauma-Related Concerns
- Behavioral and Emotional Disorders
- Memory and Cognitive Difficulties
- Neurological conditions affecting cognitive functioning
Every evaluation is individualized and may include a comprehensive clinical interview, review of relevant educational, medical, and psychological records, behavioral observations, standardized testing, and consultation with parents, caregivers, schools, physicians, therapists, or other professionals when appropriate. This collaborative approach allows us to obtain a complete picture of the individual’s functioning across multiple settings.
Upon completion of the evaluation, clients receive a detailed written report that includes assessment findings, diagnostic impressions, a summary of cognitive and emotional strengths and challenges, and practical, individualized recommendations. A feedback session is also provided to review the results, answer questions, explain diagnoses, and discuss recommendations in detail so that clients and families leave with a clear understanding of the findings and next steps.
Our evaluations provide valuable information to guide treatment planning and can be used to support:
- Individualized psychotherapy and psychiatric treatment planning
- Educational planning and academic interventions
- School-based accommodations, including IEPs and 504 Plans
- College disability accommodations
- Standardized testing accommodations (SAT, ACT, GRE, LSAT, MCAT, and other professional examinations)
- Workplace accommodations
- Vocational and career planning
- Medical treatment planning
- Court-related and forensic matters when clinically appropriate
- Coordination of care among healthcare providers, educators, and other professionals
At Fieldston Counseling, we believe that every individual deserves an accurate understanding of how they learn, think, and function. Our goal is not simply to provide a diagnosis, but to offer meaningful insight and practical recommendations that empower individuals and families to make informed decisions and achieve greater success at home, in school, at work, and within their communities. Through comprehensive assessment and compassionate care, we help clients build upon their strengths while addressing the challenges that may be interfering with their overall well-being and quality of life.
